Do I need to book for the charm bar?

No — our 20 Thistle Street shop is completely walk-in. Just come in, choose your chain and charms, and our team will assemble your piece for you. We recommend coming earlier in the day, especially on weekends, as it can get busy.

If you’d prefer to book, we offer appointments at our 44 Hanover Street space (Thursday–Sunday, 10am–6pm), ideal for a girly day out, special occasions and groups !

How does the charm bar work?

You choose your base (necklace or bracelet), then add your charms.

  • Chains are £10 (any length)
  • Charms range from £5–£15

We assemble everything for you in-store. Assembling charms can take up to 30 minutes so you can either wait in-store or pick up at anytime before closing.

How long does it take?

Usually 15–30 minutes.

On weekends, it can take up to 1 hour.

You’re welcome to wait in-store or come back later.

Appointments are perfect for groups, and we offer birthday and corporate packages for groups of 6+.

Shipping & Returns

Do I need to pay extra fees when ordering from the US?

Yes. Due to tariffs introduced under the Trump administration, all jewellery orders shipped to the US are subject to import duties and taxes. These fees are collected by customs in the US and are not included in your checkout total.

Who will contact me about these fees?

We ship US orders with our partner Evri. They manage the customs clearance process and will email you directly with the duty/tax amount to be paid before your parcel can be released.

Can I avoid paying duties and tariffs?

Unfortunately no — all US imports are subject to these rules. However, we’re actively working on ways to make the process smoother (and more affordable) for our customers in the future.

Are your products durable?

Absolutely. Our jewellery is made to be worn every day and built to last. We use 316L stainless steel, also known as medical-grade stainless steel, as the base for most of our pieces. This material is highly resistant to tarnish, corrosion, and scratches, and it’s also hypoallergenic, making it safe for sensitive skin.

Each piece is then finished with a thick layer of 18k gold PVD plating. Unlike traditional gold plating, PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) is a premium process that bonds the gold to the steel at a molecular level. This makes the finish more durable, waterproof, and long-lasting, even with daily wear.

Can I return my order?

Yes — as long as items are unworn and returned within 14 days.

What if my item is faulty?

If something isn’t right, please email us at customerservice@recreationjewels.com with your order number and a photo, and we’ll resolve it for you as quickly as possible.

How do I book a charm bar appointment?

For groups of 6 or more, we offer discounts and bespoke party packages. Please email charmbar@recreationjewels.com with your group size and preferred date, and we’ll create something tailored for you.

What’s the difference between Thistle Street and Hanover Street Charm Bar?

Our Thistle Street shop is walk-in for shopping and quick charm bar builds.

44 Hanover Street is our dedicated charm bar space for booked appointments, designed for a more private, group experience.

How long should I allow for my appointment?

We recommend allowing 45–60 minutes, depending on your group size and how many pieces you’d like to create.

Is this a good activity for birthdays or groups?

Yes — our charm bar is one of our most loved in-store experiences, so we’ve now expanded it for group bookings.

Is it close to Edinburgh city centre?

Yes — both locations are in central Edinburgh, just a 3-minute walk from each other and around a 10-minute walk from Waverley Station, making them easy to reach from most main areas.

Can I bring friends who aren’t making jewellery?

Yes — but we recommend letting us know via emailing : charmbar@recreationjewels.com in advance if your group is larger so we can accommodate you comfortably.

Can I take my jewellery home the same day?

Yes — everything is made during your appointment, so you’ll leave with your finished piece.

Do you restock sold out items?

Some of our bestsellers are restocked, but not always — we recommend signing up for restock notifications on the product page.

Do you offer repairs?

If something isn’t right, email us at customerservice@recreationjewels.com and we’ll always do our best to help.

Can I change or cancel my order?

After placing your order, you’ll receive an email giving you 1 hour to make any changes, including your address or adding items.

After this window, your order will begin processing and changes may not be possible.

Will your jewellery tarnish?

Around 90% of our pieces are waterproof and designed to be worn every day without tarnishing.

A small number of styles are not waterproof — including Diana’s Necklace, Aurora’s Charm Bracelet, and Arabella’s Necklace — and we recommend keeping these away from water to maintain their finish.

Any non-waterproof pieces are clearly noted on the product page.
